It’s that time of the year when the crafty bubbles over. It’s fun to try new things when it’s a little too chilly or snowy to do much outside. I’m always cruising Pinterest for new and fun ideas. Recently, I saw small sea turtle jewelry blanks on Etsy and thought these could make perfect gifts for the beach, lake, and sea loving people. It’s also a nice reminder of summer ๐ Once I receive them, I will share the finished pieces with you. Just in case you want to try, I have attached three of the craft circles I made for the jewelry blanks. Click below on the pdf link.
Also, on Pinterest, I have been eyeballing the cutest Peg People. When I was little, one of my favorite toys were the Little People. I am probably dating myself, but any chance to feel like a kid again, I’m game. I purchased a few peg people blanks and this winter, I am going to put together a few families.
Yesterday, I created one peg girl.ย I could not decided if I wanted to use paint, paint pens, or colored pencil. This poor peg person has every element possible, my test peg (I spent an hour smashing all the colors together like a kid). I really enjoyed creating this little peg, and now she has become my peg on a shelf, although she isn’t any where near a quality piece nor polished (no sanding or seal). I have also decided to try a wood burner to make the lines so I’ll have to let you know how this winter project goes.ย
I hope everyone is having fun creating, preparing, and making plans with family and friends for a wonderful season of love and joy.
With much love,
Lisa

I remember playing with the “Little People” too… Had the bus and everything… The new ones aren’t as cool.. Too many details or not the same.. not sure.. Your project sounds interesting… Can’t wait to see how it goes…

They were so great! I agree with you. I was so disappointed to see what they have evolved into. Nothing like the originals. I’m excited to make my own version.

I remember “little people” and loved them! So if you’re dating yourself, then I’m dating myself as well. And I’m afraid that I wasn’t even all that young when they came out. What a fun post!

My mother used to create the most beautiful little ladies with lace petticoats under their elegant dresses. These were so much fun to play with. I think she stuffed some material to make the head and push the end into the empty spool, Yarn hair and dots with pens for eyes and mouth. Now I am inspired to try this again. The spools came in all shapes and sizes too.

Here’s to all the peg people Mom’s have picked up over the years! They were better than an iPad keeping little ones happy.-Laurel

So much better than an iPad for sure! Hours of fun! If you stepped on one, it hurt, but wasn’t as expensive as a broken screen ๐

Oh yes, I remember the peg people! Had a lot of them until the family dog decided to use them for chew toys. Never occurred to me to make them however-very impressive undertaking! The craft circles are gorgeous ๐

I remember a few of mine had a few chew marks ๐ Dogs seem to favor the peg family, too. Making them brings back many happy memories. Thank you!!

You are an artist. Artists have natural talent that is lacking in others. I’m a non-practicing musician and know better than to attempt anything in the realm of visual arts.

Oh wow those Fisher Price Little People from the 1970s – I’d forgotten all about them. There was a house and my cousins had a petrol station, I remember it all now… A Treehouse too? Love seeing things from the past like this.
