When Fashion and Nature Collide – Ocean Tails, a Secret to Share.

Ocean Tails on Postcard 5 x 7

Just imagine your bare feet slipping into warm sugar sand. You are in your swimsuit, a beach tote in hand, soaking up the sun. You look to the left, then the right, and forward, you see nothing but turquoise. Your senses fill with a hint of salt and sea, the waves crash in, coming to rest in front of you. The rhythmic sounds of the ocean seeps into your soul with enchanting grace, releasing weight of built up stress. The beach is sprinkled with beautiful fashion, flowers, and critters, perhaps you will even catch a glimpse of a shimmering fin. Order your favorite drink and settle in under the umbrella. Let’s go to the sea.

On the third Wednesday of each month, we will post a new collaborative edition of  When Fashion and Nature Collide. You will see beautiful fashion and accessories styled and modeled by Dominique from 3C Style and original art made by me, Lisa from Lismore Paper that were inspired by Roda from Growing Self critter pictures and Darren from the Arty Plantsman flower pictures and his original art. For the full feature be sure to visit Dominique, Roda, and Darren. Let’s take the plunge into our Ocean Edition!

Dive Girl

Grab your gear and let’s go explore the deep blue. Tropical pink hibiscus flowers and succulents make this diving mask and regulator watercolor. Mixed with fun script and signature eyelashes, it’s a fun way to show a bit of your adventurous spirit. Dominique is a dive girl making a splash in the pictures below. There is also a secret to share later in the post.

Make Waves – Protect the Ocean

This is one of the most meaningful pieces of art I have ever created. Using watercolor succulents and a variation of flowers and leaves, inspiration came in many forms. Roda’s beautiful sea turtles and Darren’s blue flower, Tecophilaea Cyanocrocus, are a wonderful inspiration point. Dominique and I emailed back and forth until this slogan fit our views just right and her brilliant lettering made this a piece to remember. This is such an important topic. Disposing of trash and recycle properly is key. We need to protect all of our critters in the ocean. When you do the right thing, it makes waves, they travel far and do a lot of good for every soul on the planet. The turtles will thank you with their beauty and their endless work of seed dispersal, acting as the clean-up crew of the ecosystem, and some even create a habitat for hundreds of species of animals from invertebrates to mammals.

Ocean Tails – A Secret to Share

The ocean holds many creatures. Some we have known about since the beginning of time, some have been recently discovered, and some special ones, are what dreams are made of. There are timeless tales, but there is one mystical creature that we long to see and hear, the Mermaid. What I didn’t know, there was a beautiful mermaid amongst all of us this entire time! Before I show you the proof, I want to share with you the post card made by me set on a 5 x7 vintage piece and using several different forms of mediums: vintage, colored pencil, watercolor, and acrylic. Darren’s wife, Susan, photographed the  beautiful hibiscus flower which I used in the mermaid’s hair. Click on the image below to save to your device, for personal use only.

  1. I like the way the theme of the month is approached. The description and the story install us right on the beach. Ah, I just want to go back to Mexico, but this time with you, Darren and Roda! He would have a good time with in the company of three mermaids. And we could take him on a trip underwater. He would be so fascinated by algae, corals and marine life. You have very well described the importance of turtles for the environment and other species. I love this sea turtle that you created. Stunning, simple stunning. Looks like a character from an animated movie. Bravo! Much love dear friend. xoxo

      2. It’s amazing what can be accomplished together. Across the sea and border we come together just as if we were in the same studio working. Now that would be a dream. All of you are incredibly talented and like my family ❤️😍🌿

  5. I am glad to find someone else who is aware of how crucial the health of our oceans is to ALL of us. I love your turtle artwork, and I like this sentence from your blog post in particular: “When you do the right thing, it makes waves, they travel far and do a lot of good for every soul on the planet.” We all need to wake up to the larger patterns (many of our own making) unfolding around us.

    1. I wish that everyone could see the impact that our lifestyle is making. Thank you so much, you have made my day! I truly believe if we just modified our ways, it would certainly make waves. The water all over the Earth would benefit greatly. 😀❤️
