When Fashion and Nature Collide – LOVE

Nature is deeply healing to our soul. Fresh air, flowers, and trees has a direct link to our wellbeing. Stress and anxiety seem to melt away under the sun, by the water, and amongst the trees. It increases a positive mood, emotionally and physically, reducing blood pressure, heart rate, muscle tension, and the production of stress hormones. It may even reduce mortality. This month we are celebrating the love of nature and the opening of Fashioned By Nature.

Welcome to our February edition of When Fashion and Nature Collide. On the third Wednesday of each month, we will post a new collaborative edition. You will see art, beautiful fashion and accessories styled by Dominique from 3C Style, flowers and beautiful art by Darren from the Arty Plantsman, and original art from me Lisa@Lismore Paper. Be sure to check out each blog for the full edition. Check out our shop for the original designs for these editions.

For the Love of Trees

The three of us believe in the power of nature. For the Love of Trees, really captures what is in our hearts. This is one of my favorite designs, and is currently available in our shop. This idea was sketched by Dominique and sent over to Darren and I. As a graphic artist, I have endless amounts of sketches, watercolor, and ephemera to pull from to create new designs. Sometimes, I have to paint or sketch bits to make it fit our current theme. As soon as I saw her original, Tree Love design, I fell in love with it and didn’t look back. I enjoyed using the watercolor wood round created from our Fashioned by Nature logo and a birch I had sketched several years ago. I never thought I’d be making letters out of birch, but I can tell you, the entire alphabet will be created shortly. When we were creating our products, I have a serious crush on the tote bag. I have a feeling I will own all of the tote bags at some point.

The birch hearts were created by me, but inspired by Dominique, again from a sketch. The fun part about these designs, all three of us decide on the final design. Sometimes there are several versions, you never see. In another post, I will share a behind the scene look of our creativity. It is an incredibly fun process that I would not trade for anything. All of these designs are created from our hearts, shared values, and friendship. The slogan. Engrained in Nature, is a true statement of the values we share.

Sweet Tweets

Inspired by Dominique, this Sweet Tweets design hit the mark. I love how powerful a design can be with a few simple shapes and a title. When putting this design together, I wanted the heart to stand out. Orange, yellow, and pink watercolor was used. This shirt is something I cannot wait to wear. It’s whimsy and captures the spirit of love and happiness. Looks fantastic in a layered look and with a pair of jeans. Accessories are equally important. A few of my favorite items in this collection besides the shirt, is the zip pouch and notebook.

Sweet Heart

Inspired by Dominique, this strawberry sweetheart fashion is perfection. Darren’s artwork of the strawberries is remarkably life-like, they look like a picture. Look at the leaves, I am so in awe of his talent. I love when the three of us have a hand in the finished product. Although my portion was minimal in this piece, I had the opportunity to create the type. I believe there were about eight type designs created on this piece and collectively we chose what you see in this design. What hit me the most was the life that Dominique captured in her shoot. Her free spirit in the grocer is priceless. Something I will share, tucked away in the corner of the shot with the pineapples is a lady and the look on her face is priceless. What we do for fashion. I love it! Just to let you know, we also have the cutest baby clothes and accessories. Visit Dominique and Darren for more on the Sweetheart Fashion.

Lips the Psychotria Elata Plant

Inspired by Darren’s picture of the Psychotria Elata, Dominique came up with this great idea and AMAZING red coat. Perfect for Valentine’s Day. Visit Darren and Dominique for more on this shoot and interesting plant. I especially love the name. I think the person who named this plant had a fantastic sense of humor. Perhaps they were trying to say that passion can make you a bit crazy (psycho). My contribution to this was the watercolor pink lips. I had to throw in the sketch art for good measure. Perhaps we can create a t-shirt with the Psychotria in mind. I love plant humor. Mother Nature certainly has a sense of humor herself.

Emoji Pawsion

This design and original sketch was created by Dominique and is one that I love. This beauty has been hidden away for quite a few months. I only assisted in making her sketch high resolution so we could turn it into a design. Who doesn’t love an emoji that captures the spirit of an animal. Look at these fantastic products!

Much Love and Hugs

This could not be any closer to my heart. This phrase and design captures me, it is who I am. I never hide my feelings when I truly love and appreciate the people who mean the most to me, life is too short. I say this often, well probably way too often. I end each blog post this way. I don’t want someone to wonder what is truly in my heart. Dominique suggested that we use this phrase as one of our designs and I could not be more thrilled with the outcome. It has a rocker feel, but the heart and the wings encompass many things to me personally. I believe in the power of love. Every living thing needs love, people…critters…nature and the earth. I will be wearing this proudly and plan on purchasing each product with this design. Look at those fantastic colors!

Blooming Hearts

Dominique came up with this idea just recently and I put it together using Darren’s amazing flowers, his botanical art is just mind blowing. My white birch heart and an ephemera butterfly. This is a design in progress. Watch for this to hit our shop.

The second set of hearts is something I made for Darren and Dominique using a part of a phrase minted by Dominique. It captures my love and respect for their creative genius and my love for them. I am truly blessed to be on this journey alongside of them and thank you to all of you that have believed in us and our creativity.

I hope you have a chance to check out our shop.

Can you believe that it’s our anniversary next month! We will be celebrating one year of When Fashion and Nature Collide on March 20th.

  1. Such creativity… The behind scenes blog will be interesting. The three of you seem so in tune with the process that I imagine that it comes easily. Heartfelt creativity. πŸ˜πŸ’šπŸ’›β€οΈπŸ’žπŸ’•

      1. I had a look at your shop items. The T-shirt are great but I think it would help if you also gave a description of the cotton content, washing instructions, etc. I used to be in the printing industry, and we made custom T-shirt using transfers printed in a colour photocopier. People brought their own designs or used one of my designs and we had a choice of black or white T-shirt. We bought 100% cotton wholesale from a manufacturer for about $2 Canadian each (at that time) and sold them custom printed for $12.99 (at that time in late 1990’s). We found it best to explain to customers that they should wash the garment inside out at low temperatures, and to be careful ironing using a pressing cloth over the printed transfer.
You may already be doing this Lisa, but I don’t see anything to indicate how your designs have been printed, fabric content, or washing and ironing instructions. It might be helpful to people. πŸ˜ŠπŸ˜‰πŸ’ž

  5. Now, THAT was a lot of work. So much to love about this post. Adore the “Engrained in Nature” phrase. You know I love Birch. Just striking work, Lisa. Not so much now, but I once was a shutterbug with camera in hand. Terrific shot of Dominique inside the window with the outdoors reflection. I feel like I was walking by on the sidewalk and spotted her there. Sweetness all around with the strawberries, lip art, the tweet t-shirt, and that brilliant red coat! Last, but not least, the winged logo. That Rocks! Congrats on the collaboration. Happy anniversary to the trio of…nature. Indeed, love & hugs.

  6. I wanted to let you know that the shirts are awesome. I tried them on today and I can’t wait to wear them out and about. I think I told you that the pouch came yesterday and it will hold all of my cords, adapters and other techy power related paraphernalia. It’s big and perfect for that! I can’t wait to see what you come out with next. I’m very excited about your birch alphabet. That will be beautiful as it is incorporated into your designs. It’s all beautiful and I’ll certainly keep an eye on the shop for new items! Hugs and love! πŸ€—β€οΈ
