When Fashion and Nature Collide – The Art of Illusion

Typewriter photo by Dominique of 3CStyle, Flower Artwork by Darren of Arty Plantsman, Type by Lisa of Lismore Paper

Illusion is interpreted by the senses. Perhaps even a figment of the imagination. It surrounds us. Our favorite television shows like Game of Thrones and movies like Harry Potter, fancy cuisine, art, magazines and ads are filled with beautiful illusions. Word Art is an illusion – inspirational words hidden in various places. Letters turned into a canvas. Pictures placed on top of each other to create another image, like the typewriter above. This is my favorite kind of art – mixed media. We see mixed media in nature, I think Mother Nature likes this art form. Flowers love to mask themselves with different faces of other species.

Welcome to our Illusions edition of When Fashion and Nature Collide. On the third Wednesday of each month, we will post a new collaborative edition. You will see art, beautiful fashion and accessories styled by Dominique from 3C Style, botanicals, critters, and beautiful art by Darren from the Arty Plantsman, and botanicals, critters and art from me Lisa@Lismore Paper. Be sure to check out each blog for the full edition. Check out our shop for the original fashion and accessories from all of our editions.

Art of Illusion is set within this inspirational peony. Positive charged words fill the canvas. Dominique styled the fashion so perfectly and I love the bright pop of color. Check out Dominique’s blog for a special illusion set in red.

I was so excited for this shoot. The illusion is spectacular as it has a, Sound of Music, feel. It’s like magic. I was so inspired by the colors of the sun and Dominique’s beauty in these photographs. I wanted to match the colors of her beautiful outfit and the yellow that Darren had captured in the horned poppy.

It’s a ballerina bug! When I first saw this in Darren’s critter file, I immediately messaged both Darren and Dominique. If you only could read our conversations. I always say we will do a behind the scenes look of our journey to publication. I think this is the most graceful bug I have ever seen. I could only see a dance studio and ballet slippers. Perhaps for those of you who remember the song Tiny Dancer, I had that song in my head the entire time I created this piece…and now as I type this post. I think Dominique styled this one perfectly even down to the shoes. Perhaps a ballet tote might be in order 🙂

I cannot even begin to tell you about Darren’s amazing artistic ability. He is truly the most incredible artist I know. I have the privilege of being able to make other art from his creation. Fresh Cut Flowers is a perfect example of illusion art. Taking a piece of Darren’s drawing I fit it into the word, FLOWERS, and then colored the white space yellow. It’s a fun way to design. The scarf is an absolute showpiece that Darren and Dominique created. If you visit both of their blogs you will see more of this beautiful collaboration.

This little critter makes me happy. Darren has captured this lifelike ostrich perfectly. When I was creating the file for our shop I could not help but smile. That is a tote bag that I have to add to my collection. It’s available in our shop.

Hope you enjoyed this edition of When Fashion and Nature Collide! Our next edition will be on June 19th and we have some crafty things happening!

Much love and hugs!

  3. Lisa, Lisa, Lisa… I love everything in this post. I can tell you enjoy working on our designs and project. It shows. Your artworks are stunning, the collages fantastic and the post beautifully written. Perhaps I should not say but you did all that at the last minute because you were still working on our shop and one artwork. You amaze me sis! Yes you are talented, but what impresses me the most is YOU, your kindness and intelligence. These qualities are not a fake illusion as you constantly show them by your actions to Darren and I, they are part of who you are. During the past year I got to know you pretty well and I can say you are like a good book. A book we want to read over and over again. I can’t wait to meet you in person my dear friend. Huge hugs. And lots of love.

  4. Hello Lisa, I have just worked out how your, Darren’s and Dominque’s blogs work together to create When Fashion and Nature Collide monthly edition. I love how you each do your own separate post based around your chosen theme. It must be like opening up a gift from one another every month. 🙂 Your tiny dancer artwork is a favourite. Kind regards. 6. Marvelous!! That photo of Dominique reclining is just stunning. You’ve made her into an Impressionistic painting! Your talent never ceases to amaze me. Of course, your subject matter is pretty darned inspirational, too! Monet had his water lilies and you have your poppies. 🙂 ❤️

  8. Hi Lisa,

First, have a safe trip to Montreal. Your creativity is extraordinary. I found the Ostrich in a pocket you showcased had different meaning but very beautiful and great work. It’s an awesome vibe for learning arts, creativity, and fashion. Keep up the good work.
