Camouflage surrounds us at every twist and turn, its a hidden beauty. I began to think about its concealment or better described as a disguise. For both fashion and nature it seems there is a need and desire to camouflage with everything from our hair, clothing, and make-up. Matter of fact, I camouflage every morning. In nature, it keeps the critters safe and the predators at bay. It’s when we blend these two, it creates a brilliant camouflage of its own that allows a sense of self confidence to bloom. Beautiful patterns and colors that only Mother Nature could blend so flawlessly. If we camouflage parts of ourselves why not do so as a statement and create a radiance that only nature can bring.
Welcome to our November edition of When Fashion and Nature Collide. On the third Wednesday of each month, we will post a new collaborative edition. You will see art, beautiful fashion and accessories modeled and styled by Dominique from 3C Style. Botanicals, critters, photography and beautiful art by Darren from the Arty Plantsman. Botanicals, critters and art from me Lisa@Lismore Paper. Be sure to check out each blog for the full edition and click on the links for free printables. Check out our shop for the original fashion and accessories from all of our editions.

Birch trees hold so much power. They are beautiful in all seasons but are especially magical this time of the year, the changing of colors really make them show their vibrant white. The photo of the birch is one of my favorites and a view I enjoy from my living room. They evoke wonderful childhood memories of my grandmother’s birch trees that lined a small portion of the west side of her property. Most importantly, many unique critters like the Peppered Moth find shelter here as they are camouflaged perfectly. Dominique’s blouse and skirt mimics the tree, the camouflage of nature precisely and elegantly displayed in these pieces. The art work is a pen and ink drawing, the leaves are watercolor set on stained parchment paper.

This paper is wonderful for a nature journal or as a seasonal page. It can also be placed on tags and cards for that nature lover.

The Hawkmoth pattern intrigued me. A pattern and colors as striking as a cheetah. It always amazes me how they blend into the earth seamlessly. The fashion and make up industry mimic these colors constantly. How beautiful would a clear moth case with these eye shadow colors look. I know its something I would love. What do you say Urban Decay or Storybook? A Fashioned By Nature line ๐ What can I say, I’m a dreamer. Dominique’s make up and fashion mimic nature down to her green boots. Darren has captured the Stinkbug and Moth in their element. The pattern paper is taken from the wing of the Hawkmoth, placed and colored with a lighter color of the wing.

This paper is wonderful for a fashion or nature journal. It can also be used for cards and junk journals.

This Spider which I have called the Maple Spider was photographed by Darren. This amazing little critter has quite a unique pattern, look how she blends into her environment. When I see a spider like this I always think of Charlotte’s Web, one of my favorite childhood stories. In this case, she would have an English accent. The way this spider was camouflaged is brilliant. Dominique’s style makes this my favorite of the edition. The pattern in the coat, the rust color of her blouse, and the layered texture of her skirt and boots really take this to the next level. The setting is truly a nature lovers dream.
The maple tree is one of my favorite trees at my home. I thought it would be a great camouflage for the spider if this little Charlotte chose to spin her web here. This collage is set on vintage invoice paper with a watercolor maple leaf with a cutout overlay.

Well it’s quirky, if you take a step back and look at the design – you don’t see the birch trees first, well l didn’t l actually saw the birch trees second, the beige back ground took the place of the trunks for me and l saw ivy creeping up trees on a sunny day, then l thought no, these are birch trees – then l saw them ๐

I love that you saw it like that first. Art is in the eye of the beholder, that is the fun part ๐โค

Those birch trees are fantastic! They caught my eye right away because the birch was the first subject I ever learned to paint when I took a watercolor class. This installment is just wonderful. I love the idea of camouflage! You see it everywhere if you just keep an eye out. Bugs, fashion, trees…all so much fun!

You know I would find this post intriguing… being a nature girl and all. I often wonder why we don’t see more camouflage fabrics in fashion? I know animal prints are supposed to be all the rage the last couple of years, but I loathe them truly. I guess because I see a lot of “mature” women wearing these prints and they remind me of old “cougars” giving it a last ditch effort to get attention! Oh well, they’re just not for me. I love your moth wing design, and the birch is gorgeous. Tree bark has some of the most beautiful hues, depending on time of year and moisture in the atmosphere… even fungus could be fun to look at!

Thank you!! This made me laugh! I often see the same thing while shopping. I truly love the tree type camouflage myself, the hues are marvelous. Fungus is especially beautiful with its texture and always imagine the fairies using mushrooms for shade.
