Art based on Science. Medicine is an art. Brilliant people in history have spoken about the importance of the arts within science. Albert Einstein ingeniously stated, “After a certain high level of technical skill is achieved, science and art tend to coalesce in esthetics, plasticity, and form. The greatest scientists are always artists as well.”
For me, it is an art form near and dear to my heart (no pun intended :). When I worked as a Firefighter and Paramedic, the love of medicine, not to mention staring countless hours at anatomical art (diagrams) is how we learned. When I see the vibrant colors and fine details in the intricate drawings, it brings back many memories. That is why I create medical art today.
This week, my husband and I are celebrating our 20th wedding anniversary. We worked on the same department, I assisted the instructor in his First Responder class. It was in that class, over anatomy diagrams and medical acronyms that we bonded, forming a friendship. We experienced many things together that gave us a deeper appreciation of life and trust. I still have the medical art that we used to teach that class a little over 22 years ago. It’s where my adult life began.
Today, I created a paper that mimics red blood cell travel through the body. I am a science geek, I just can’t help it. Anatomy of humans, animals, medicinal plants make me long to keep learning. I love medical ephemera and chemical compounds in medicine that heal us. Medicinal plants are extraordinary. Some of these pieces will eventually make it to the Lismore Paper Co. site early next year.
I made this today, with the paper I created. I thought I would use it for a journal cover or clip art for another project. It is set on an antique chemical compound chart, tea stained paper, and a silhouette of a human heart, stethoscope from the early 1900’s, and line art of normal sinus rhythm. Please feel free to use it for personal use.
With much love and happy holidays,
Lisa

I love this design! I’m kind of a science/anatomy geek, too. I especially love anatomically-based skeleton motif stuff. This is gorgeous.

Aw, thank you! I do love the science of cooking. I have always enjoyed cooking, but once I started to understand that there was science there, I really fell in love with it.

That’s very good! I agree that science and art are intertwined, even though I am not particularly good at either one of them. And happy anniversary!

Congratulations on twenty years. Love is hard to come by and even harder to find one that lasts. The art is amazing. You should submit to texts book or medical pamphlets. I know if I was in a doctor’s office and saw that image I’d have to take it home.
